Following on from the successful visit in February, a second visit from the Glengormley PCI Men Together local community group were able to witness first-hand the key aspects of the Mallusk facility, the flexible production processes in place, multi-skilled workforce and the various products manufactured at there.
One again a great deal of interest was shown by the group keeping the Montracon tour guides on their toes with a questions and answers session conducted throughout the visit. All the group(s) left with a keep sake of the day and everyone was very complimentary to all those involved.
Montracon would like to say thank you to all the gentlemen from Glengormley PCI Men Together, and hope they all enjoyed their visit.
Doncaster company Montracon generously donated a semi- trailer to Humberside Fire and Rescue Service earlier this year and it was the central focus of today’s RTC scenario for full-time firefighter recruits.
Representatives from the company watched the staged incident at the Immingham West Training Centre where 20 recruits are nearing the end of their 13 week firefighter course. Pictured in the centre are left to right: Watch Manager Lee Caswell, Dean Ridgill and Mark Leighton from Montracon and WM Simon Heath flanked by Red Squad new recruits.
The extrication of a driver from a car wedged under the trailer involved the recruits stabilising both vehicles, disconnecting power from the cab to the trailer and jacking the trailer to support its own weight before bringing the casualty out safely through the boot.
Watch Manager Simon Heath was pleased with the exercise:
‘Extricating casualties from road traffic collisions is an all too familiar role for firefighters nowadays. Many call-outs, especially to main roads and motorways, involve large vehicles or HGVs. Montracon’s generous donation of this trailer has allowed us to get used to the difficulties faced by having to stabilise such a large vehicle in a safe training environment. The new recruits have really enjoyed the challenge as part of their learning.’
‘We have an excellent relationship with Humberside Fire and Rescue, with two members of staff at our Market Weighton refrigeration plant providing retained fire cover at the station in the town. When the idea was first mentioned of supplying a used trailer to the training centre, we were only too happy to help.
Montracon is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year so it has been great to ‘put something back’ and see one of our trailers put to such good use – there is nothing like training with the real thing!’

“We have developed our rigid bodies with Montracon and we are now building to this specification as standard, which is something we are not aware other rental providers are doing.
It has been engineered to be one of the safest heavy rigids on the market. Yes, there are greater costs associated with it, and rental companies don’t normally do it, but we believe it is the right standard to have on vehicles to protect the safety of the general public and the driver.
Our commitment to safety means customers can operate high-spec commercial vehicles supplied by Montracon, certified to the highest standard, without committing to a longer, fixed-term contract hire package or waiting for new vehicles to be built.”

At this year’s CV Show, Montracon celebrates 40yrs in the trailer industry by taking its largest ever stand (Hall 3, 3A63).
One of three vehicles making a show debut is a twin lifting deck reefer that has been developed to accommodate more pallets than previous Montracon models. It carries 44 split 18 on the upper deck, 18 on the lower and 8 over the swan neck. This trailer is also displayed fitted with the Axscend Trailermaster – in addition to a reversing safety aid, it provides continuous monitoring of the trailer’s performance with a view to optimising utilisation.
The reefer is joined by two other debut makers, a curtainsider rigid chassis and a more versatile machinery/plant carrier. The curtainsider body is displayed mounted on a 26tonne DAF chassis and is one of an order for 91 Montracon bodies, a mix of boxvans, curtainsiders and refrigerated supplied to Commercial Vehicle finance provider and leasing specialist Asset Alliance . Asset Alliance has also placed a follow up order for a further 24, a mix of curtainsiders and refrigerated. The CV Show rigid has a 9m body and is of all bolted galvanised steel construction and built to meet EN12642-XL load security standard.
Completing the stand is a 13.6m curtainsider trailer that adds a further splash of colour, being finished in the company’s 40th anniversary livery.
